Tamara Robertson (she/her) is known for the loving and deeply dedicated support she provides to each of her clients and families, and her success as an advocate, healer, and community builder is unmatched.

Meet our Community Doula and Health Equity Director,
Tamara Robertson

Tam, the proud mother of five, was born and raised in Long Beach, California, where her deep-rooted community upbringing and strong connection to her Baptist faith shaped her journey.

At the age of 17, she enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and by 18, she became a mother. After five years of honorable service, Tam transitioned out of the military to devote herself to raising her children and pursuing her calling in community care and advocacy.

After reconnecting with her ancestral roots during time spent in Louisiana, Tam returned to California and co-founded Divine & Twined the Botanica in 2018, alongside her sister.

As a full-spectrum birth worker and holistic spiritual practitioner, she offers healing through birthwork, spiritual guidance, and community support.

Tam also founded For Mamas By Mamas Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing Black infant and maternal mortality rates and improving access to holistic and midwifery care for marginalized communities. Her advocacy is deeply centered around Black birth justice, reproductive justice, health equity, and abolition. Tam is passionate about abolishing the family policing system (CPS) and advocating for incarcerated mothers, standing firmly in her belief that all families deserve safety and justice.

In her current role as the Healer in Residence at Movement for Family Power, a non-profit organization dedicated to abolishing the family policing system, Tam continues to use her gifts to support healing justice for families impacted by harmful systems. In addition to her advocacy work, Tam now trains birth workers, consults, and facilitates classes and workshops to uplift and empower others in the maternal health and spiritual healing space.

Her leadership extends across multiple roles, including serving on the California Midwifery Advisory Council, being a founding member of the LA Reproductive Justice Coalition, a Congressional Mamas Caucus Fellow with Mothering Justice, a legal doula, and a member of the PRIHSM Community Action Board at Stanford School of Medicine.

At the root of her work is her love for God, the spirit of her ancestors that live through her, her five children, and her amazing and protective husband, who makes it possible for her to show up for women and families nationwide. Tam’s work is grounded in love, community care, and a commitment to creating systems of support that promote healing and justice for all.
