Faith Freeman CPM LM (she/her) has been practicing midwifery since 2006, both nationally and globally, developing a wide array of experience and skills in all areas pertaining to holistic birth and health, birth advocacy, and reproductive justice.

Meet our Founder and Licensed Midwife,
Faith Freeman CPM LM

Faith is known for giving detailed, dedicated and loving care, tailored to each client’s specific needs and desires. She is passionate about all areas of access and equity in healthcare, not only for clients and families, but also for fellow midwives, and is heavily involved in uplifting and improving the deeply imbedded biases and disparities that plague the medical and birthing community at large.

Faith is from Oklahoma, where she had a busy homebirth practice for many years, serving a large portion of the state, driving thousands of miles a year.  Faith also served as Education Director and Board member for the Midwives Society of Oklahoma over a period of several years, where she also helped lead statewide grassroots efforts, along with rallying midwives, to ensure proper legislation and bills, and preventing against restrictive and prejudiced laws around midwifery care access.

After moving to LA in 2018, Faith continued practicing as a midwife, first at another local birth center, and then she went back into private practice at the beginning of 2020. Faith was also one of the founding members of the BIPOC, LGBTQ+ and Ally’s Midwife Peer Group in Los Angeles, and regularly attends rallies, events, and panels in support of multiple social justice causes including racism and bias in health care, equity in birth access, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Faith is an abolitionist and strongly believes that the barriers and injustices that face BIPOC, Queer, and low-income families must be demolished, and that accessing and receiving quality midwifery care is a basic right due to everyone.

Faith is known for her passion in training resident midwives, and is consistently expanding the birthing community by graduating over 20 skilled Licensed Midwife providers over her years of practice.  She is usually training between two and four student midwives at any given time and is much sought after as a clinical preceptor.

Faith is currently Vice-Chair of the California State Midwifery Advisory Council, where she volunteers her time supporting the California State Medical Board around midwifery laws and guidelines to ensure safe and ideal laws and legislation for midwives and families across the state.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

Faith studied Midwifery with the Texas Midwives Training Program from 2003-2006, completing their academic syllabus, while clinically training in both home birth and birth center practices, with a total of fourteen midwife preceptors. She then chose to expand her experience with an additional out-of-hospital birth residency in Israel with Ilana Shemish CNM, as well as in-hospital Labor and Delivery and Newborn mentorships at both Becor Holim and Shaare Zedik Hospitals in Jerusalem.

Faith is nationally certified through the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) as a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), and holds a state license in California as a Licensed Midwife (LM).

Faith's story

Faith is originally from Oklahoma, where she was raised on a homestead, and is the oldest of 10 children, with most of her siblings being delivered at home by midwives.

Over her years of practice, Faith has delivered babies in Oklahoma and surrounding states including Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, and Missouri, and since 2018, has been working throughout the Greater LA area. Faith has also traveled internationally to deliver babies as well.

In December, 2017, Faith experienced birth for the first time from "the other side" when she delivered her own daughter, Kisstance Foxx, at home under the care of midwives who had been her former students and now were the ones caring for her during her own birthing journey.

In August, 2018 Faith and Kiss moved to Los Angeles, California. They live in DTLA, a few blocks from Mind Body Birth Center, with one of Faith’s younger sisters, Esther, who is vital in helping care for Kiss, as well as their doggie, Indie.

Kiss is often at the birth center and occasionally attends births alongside Faith and the team. When not hanging out at the birth center with a client in labor, Faith and Kiss enjoy park or pool dates, dancing in pjs, live music, lazy days at the beach, or cuddled in bed with Esther and Indie.
